Onam, the biggest festival in Kerala marks the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali, who once gave the people a golden era in Kerala. GIS celebrated Onam on the 20th of September. The high spirit of the celebration reflected in the intricately designed flower carpet (Pookkalam)and the welcome of Maveli. The arrival of Mahabali amid the beats of panchavadyam was well-received by the audience. It was marvellous to see the teachers in traditional Kerala dress, singing and dancing. Another attraction of the day was the traditional ‘Onasadya’ that comprised more than 15 dishes served on banana leaves and included varieties of vegetables, rice and payasam. Our dear Principal ma’am lauded the commendable performances of the staff, especially the Malayali staff members who took initiative for organizing the event and thanked everyone for making the programme a memorable one.
